RFB Construction Co, Inc.
Junior Staff Accountant (Construction & Transportation)
Location: Pittsburg, KS | Job Type: Full-Time | Experience Level: Entry Level / Recent Grad
Job Summary
Are you a recent or upcoming graduate looking to build a high-demand niche in Construction Accounting? RFB Construction is seeking a detail-orientated and organized Junior Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This isn’t just a data entry role; it is a gateway into the specialized fields of Civil Infrastructure and DOT-regulated trucking.
We provide the mentorship; you provide the "eagle eye" for detail. You will gain hands-on experience in Job Costing, Project Accounting, and Regulatory Compliance, making you an invaluable asset in the industrial sector.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Project Cost Accounting: Perform Job Costing by accurately coding invoices and tracking expenses against project budgets for heavy civil construction.
- DOT Compliance & Logistics: Support our fleet operations by maintaining records for IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement), mileage logs, and driver documentation.
- Accounts Payable/Receivable (AP/AR): Full-cycle processing of vendor invoices and assisting with progress billing for multi-phase construction projects.
- General Ledger Support: Assist with Month-End Close procedures, including bank reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.
- Audit Readiness: Maintain organized digital and physical files to ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory audits.
- Payroll: You’ll help ensure our hardworking field crews and drivers get paid accurately and on time. You’ll learn the "ins and outs" of construction payroll—from tracking crew hours to understanding how different projects impact the bottom line.
- Master of Organization: You’ll be the "brain" of our documentation. From organizing project files to keeping audit-ready records, you’ll ensure we never miss a beat (or a decimal point).
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Recent graduates or Class of 2026-2027 are encouraged to apply).
- Software Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables) and QuickBooks Online/Desktop.
- Detail-Oriented: Ability to maintain 100% accuracy in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Industry Interest: A genuine curiosity about heavy equipment logistics, civil engineering, and the trucking industry.
- Certifications (Preferred): Interest in pursuing a CPA or CCIFP (Certified Construction Financial Professional) is a plus.
